Regional Policy & Advocacy Officer

Eastern-Africa

My love and deep respect for nature was imprinted at a very young age. Growing up, I was surrounded by the Kakamega Forest and pristine rivers. As I matured, I developed a burning desire to understand the science and decision-making processes about the environment through influencing policy and legal frameworks based on practical evidence.

As the Regional Policy and Advocacy Officer, I am responsible for policy work and development and implementation of advocacy strategies. I engage stakeholders on emerging policy debates and dialogues on integrated risk management, disaster risk reduction and water resources management within the Eastern Africa region.

With more than 15 years of experience in policy and legislative advocacy, community development, civil society capacity building, organisational development and an ever-growing passion for conservation, I feel fulfilled contributing to the sustenance of wetlands for both ecological and socio-economic benefits. In 2010, I was bestowed upon the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC) Award by the President of the Republic of Kenya in recognition of my role in environmental conservation and community development.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Environmental Law and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environment Science with training on environmental journalism.

I love all things nature – sightseeing, watching documentaries and engaging with communities.
