Advocacy Officer

Ethiopia

As the Advocacy Officer in Ethiopia, I work primarily on two projects that focus on mainly on strengthening community resilience and disaster risk reduction. I also contribute to a project that aims to create resilience for waterbirds and the local communities.

Before joining Wetlands International in 2016, I was a policy coordinator with Brooke Ethiopia where I undertook policy engagement and research duties to improve the welfare of equines. My early career for about ten years was influencing policy in the water sector including agriculture and food security, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH). I supported multiple stakeholder platforms that link research, policy and practice.

I hold a MA in Regional & Local Development Studies and BA in Educational Administration from Addis Ababa University. I also have led and contributed to various published working papers, book chapters and policy briefs on wetlands and natural resources in general.

I enjoy nature photography and keeping abreast of current affairs particularly on emerging socio-political issues.
